Drawing Club- Gangster and Wondercon!

Fun fun weekend, finally was able to head to the drawing club after a few weeks of other events and freelance. It was great as usual!

I also went to Wondercon with some friends, and it was great to see all the artists and definitely to see the ones I know, but also to learn of some new ones! Couldn't leave without getting some stuff too! ;o)

Drawing Club- Belly Dancer

Belly dancing at the drawing club! I always have fun drawing dancing poses. These were great, and they'll help with movements and posing especially for the gypsy characters in my in development comic.

I wont be able to make it the next two weeks, but I'll be going to two events just as great, the Women in Animation meeting, and a discussion of CG Lighting hosted by Siggraph! Thursday seems to be a day to schedule events haha, but I'm planning a day drawing at the zoo this week. =)

The House of Terror - Final Illustration

So here finally is the final of one of Jeffrey Condran's short story illustrations!

What was interesting was the evolution of this piece, it started with the rough on the left, which just was not working so I kept changing it arranging elements until it "felt right" and did the final painting to what it is now. I can definitely say my recent practicing has been helping a lot!

Happy New Year!!

I hope everyone had wonderful holidays and that this year will be awesome!
Here are some links, sketches and illustrations!

I'm hoping the new year means some great news on my end especially in the area of work! ;o) A new reel is in progress with a bunch of new models, including Ted and the Warthog stead. I'll be making particular ones for modeling and texturing.

So it turns out there are a ton of great drawing events to go to in LA. A lot more than I realized!

The drawing club every thursday, 7-10. Looks like great fun!

He also made a great character generator, gives a few descriptive to base an idea on then draw away!

Too cute! Sloths

Some new sketches: ( I thought I figured out a way to capture sketches without taking them out of my book through taking photos, but alas it gives grey values on some of them so back to scanning it is!)

References Galore!

Hello everyone! I hope you're excited for the holidays and getting to enjoy them with loved ones.

I've found a few fun or useful resources of interest I thought I'd share, I suppose my present to all! ;o)

Kitty wrestling, some great movements for them, the stripey guy is my adorable kitty.

There's some awesome stuff on this blog, tons of storyboards, and Cal arts notes.
Chong Toons Blog

Owls playing with tennis balls are really adorable. I doodled these guys and they're fun hoping around. Owl Tennis

So I love owls a wee bit, but this guy is cute too, and also fun to doodle. Owl Pouncing Imaginary Prey

Last animal movement reference, a chameleon trying to back away.  Frightened Chameleon

Weird but cool taxidermy animals

Zelda is my favorite video game series, I loved this art by Sam Neilson. Old and new Link

Another Zelda piece, except this one is a book soon to be released of all of the concept art! Zelda Art Book!

If you like some Nintendo music for nostalgia here's a great YouTube channel. Nintendo Playlists

Some great tips for what to draw when illustrating books from Tony DiTerlizzi,

The Animation Letters Project, always great to read, enjoy!

I love dinosaurs so when I saw these it was pretty brilliant. Dinosaur Nest

Amazing brain recording, the early development of recording mental images, they hooked the participants up to scanners that would generate an image of what the eyes were seeing, to compare they would show trailers and various clips. Imagine if dreams could be recorded from it.

Happy holidays and happy creating!  =)

PS Check back Christmas Eve for a Holiday illustration + illustrations I did for family and friends.

Sketch Dump!

Various drawings from the past two months, all picked and arranged to what you see here!
I love having them all scanned, just makes my sketchbook full of floating papers though...

All sorts of animals, some cute some creepy, I used to be dead afraid of spiders but now they're interesting to draw.

CTN had some great models who where doing 1-5 minute gestures everyday, so I made sure to do it each time!

Some fantastical creations.
